Hands on Greater Phoenix - Salvation Army Christmas Lunch

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….and that means Bridgeway and our community can make a difference. The Salvation Army will be feeding several thousand folks and needs volunteers at the Phoenix Convention Center on Christmas Day, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. In order to take part, you will need to sign up to volunteer on the website:

Then, complete a 5 to 10 minute online orientation. Once your orientation is complete, sign up for the Holiday Greeters event which is listed on the calendar.

Please join us on Christmas morning as we greet the guests who attend the Salvation Army Christmas Lunch at the Phoenix Convention Center (formerly Civic Plaza) 100 N. 3rd St., downtown Phoenix

Our mission is to greet guests on Christmas morning and spend time with them before lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and guests are invited to have beverages (coffee and juice), have a family picture taken, make a telephone call to a loved one and enjoy musical entertainment.

Almost half of the guests are children and they enjoy games, clowns, coloring tables, puzzles and a visit with Santa Claus.

As a greeter, you can help with any of these activities or be a “mingler.” Minglers welcome guests at the door and visit them throughout the hall much like you would host people in your own home.

Greeters will meet at 8:30 a.m. for an information session and finish between 11:30 a.m. and noon, but your departure time can be flexible.

As the time gets closer, you will receive information on parking and check-in location.

Wear comfortable shoes, casual clothes (a bright holiday shirt is great) and bring a bottle of water if you choose, but no purse or coats, as there is no place to store your belongings.

Old Fashion USO Party Fundraiser

CASA SENIOR CENTER and the PV Military Service Monument Committee will host an Old Fashioned USO Party fundraiser Sunday, Nov 9 from 1-5 p.m. at CASA Senior Center. The afternoon will include entertainment, a steak dinner with all the trimmings, door prizes and raffles, dancing and fun for people of all ages. The event features Master of Ceremonies Lew Rees, the Regulators and their Shady Ladies, vocalist Kate St. Clair, plus music to dance by performed by B.C. Tickets are $25. Come have a good time and show your support to our Troops by helping honor the past, present and future men and women who serve to protect our liberties. PAHH (Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity) will hold their Toolbelts and Tuxedos Gala November 1 at the Prescott Resort & Conference Center. At the event, raffle tickets will be sold to raise funds to build their 55th house. Prize winners will be drawn for a $3,000 Create Your Own Paradise vacation package; Dell laptop computer; 42′ HD TV; $500 in cash; auto GPS; iPod Touch. OPEN DOOR, an outreach program of the Coalition for Compassion and Justice in Prescott, will hold their annual Warm for Winter distribution of winter clothing and related items October 18 from 10-4 at the Miller Valley Elementary School Cafeteria. The items are intended to help our Prescott neighbors, young and old, get through the winter months. Donations are currently being sought of new and gently used winter clothing including sweaters, coats, gloves, hats, scarves, sweatshirts, sweat pants and heavy socks. Also being collected are sleeping bags, blankets and small tents. Donations can be taken to Open Door, 505 W. Gurley (within Prescott United Methodist Church) on Tues, Wed or Thurs from 9-noon, or brought to the church office other weekday hours. Donations of cash will be used to purchase new items.
